To optimise this, Matec Industries has developed TT2 Fast, an automatic plate opening system designed to speed up the cycle, improve safety and increase productivity.
With TT2 Fast it is possible to open up to 200 plates in less than 5 minutes, thanks to a ‘packet’ system that divides the opening into groups of ten plates at a time. This reduces the overall length of the filter press, simplifies the handling of dewatered sludge and automates a step that would otherwise require time, labour and constant attention.

How the patented TT2 Fast automatic plate-opening system works
The operation of the TT2 Fast automatic plate opening system is based on an advanced mechanical and pneumatic architecture. The process starts with the intervention of the main cylinders of the filter press, which open the first plate pack connected to the moving plate. Immediately afterwards, the TT2 cylinders, positioned laterally to the main beams, come into operation.
These cylinders move a traction bar to which pneumatic modules are connected, which, by means of a mechanical coupling system, lift metal dogs and connect them to the plate handles. Once hooked, the cylinders retract and open the next pack, while the one already open is recompacted, freeing the space necessary for the sludge to be released by gravity.
The process is fully automatic, managed by PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), and continues sequentially until the last pack is configured. The opening speed can be adjusted via an inverter applied to the hydraulic pump, allowing the system to be adapted to the needs of each plant.
The result is an intelligent, precise and reliable mechanism designed to guarantee continuity and high performance over time.
Advanced security with ANTICROSS: risk-free opening

The system cross-references data from:
- Mechanical limit switches, installed on both sides of the machine
- Hydraulic pressure, measured in real time by precision transducers
This double check allows the PLC to detect any anomalies. For example, if a bale gets stuck between the plates and prevents correct compaction, the TT bar will not reach the limit switch. If, at the same time, abnormal pressure is detected, the system recognises the critical condition and immediately stops the machine, preventing breakage or damage.
The ANTICROSS system not only protects the integrity of the filter press, but also contributes to a longer service life and a higher level of safety for operators.
