The technique consists in washing the contaminated soil with water, aqueous solutions of surfactants, biosurfactants or organic solvents.<\/p><p>Soil washing is used in case of soil contamination by heavy metals, hydrocarbons and pesticides.<br \/>Removal of contaminants occurs by two mechanisms:<\/p><ul><li>MECHANICAL: Disintegration of agglomerates that may be present in the soil and the release in suspension in the extracting liquid of the contaminant particles;<\/li><li>PHYSICAL-CHIMICAL: Concentration and eventual dispersion of the contaminants in the extraction liquid in the form of suspended particles<\/li><\/ul><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.matecindustries.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/terreno-contaminato-matec-industries.webp\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-52272 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.matecindustries.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/terreno-contaminato-matec-industries.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.matecindustries.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/terreno-contaminato-matec-industries.webp 800w, https:\/\/www.matecindustries.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/terreno-contaminato-matec-industries-300x150.webp 300w, https:\/\/www.matecindustries.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/terreno-contaminato-matec-industries-768x384.webp 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p><h2>\u00a0<\/h2><h2>EXTRACTIVE FLUIDS USED IN THE WASHING<\/h2><p>Depending on the type of pollutant, Washing is done by choosing from the following possible extractive fluids, such as:<\/p><ul><li>Water, hot or cold;<\/li><li>Water with surfactants;<\/li><li>Acid solutions (usually with HCl, H2SO4 and NHO3);<\/li><li>Alkaline solutions (typically with NaOH, Na2CO3);<\/li><li>Complexing agents (citric acid, ammonium acetate, NTA and EDTA-ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid);<\/li><li>Organic solvents.<\/li><\/ul><h2>THE MAIN PHASES OF SOIL WASHING<\/h2><p>In Soil Washing we exploit the fact that pollutants tend to adhere more to fine particles. Due to their high specific surface area they tend to absorb a greater quantity of pollutants.
